Gallantry was not a device of the Greeks. Yet, throughout the first hundreds years of their civilization, the Greek materials has already presented birth to highly polished and sophisticated long epics that revolved around characters. These literature works provided many possibilities of definition of heroism. The Greeks illustrated heroism to follow the rules laid down by the gods and goddesses, and the ones who obey the rules could gain prize and fame. The Greeks regarded intellect as one of the top gifts that all heroes must posses. The Greeks necessary that all heroes must have bravery. Odysseus, among the heroes with the epic " Odyssey" standout. He was regularly expected to certainly be a true hero, always follow the rules laid down by immortals, have wisdom and courage.

The Greeks presumed that all heroes must always comply with the Guest/Host relationship rule-- which most guests need to treat the hosts with courtesy, and the host need to treat everyone properly-- laid down by the gods and goddesses. Those who did not comply with the regulation would be penalized severely. Odysseus throughout the epic, demonstrated that he obeyed the Guest/Host romance rule. Odysseus always following a Guest/Host marriage rule, a characteristic that all heroes should have according to the Greeks' tradition. Every heroes need to followed the rule mainly because if they were doing not, they can be punished by the immortals, and will not be acknowledged as heroes. The moment Odysseus reach the property of the Cyclops race. Odysseus decided to choose his greatest men, merchandise offered as gifts, and headed toward a Cyclops's cave.
